Star Wars toy report: Constable Zuvio

Little is known about Constable Zuvio other than he is a constable of the Niima Outpost on the planet Jakku.
There were rumors that he is Boba Fett and or that his armor was fashioned out of the remnants of Boba Fett’s. Given the fact that he is a Kyuzo and that there are other characters that wear the same armor, both rumors are rendered false.
It seems that the good constable is the least sold figure from the selection of Episode VII figures which i don’t understand. I like the design and the aura of the character. He is described as a rather stern and humorless fellow, and the sculpt captures his determination.

3,75 inch version

This version comes with a backpack and a staff.
The deatails on his helmet weapons (he has blasters next to his face and still nobody wants to buy him) and uniform are great. Of course there are a few paint errors, but like on the photo below, they are on sections of the figure that you tend not to display towards the observer.
The backpack is attached via a peg and holds quite nicely. The paint apps on the accessories aren’t as well painted as on the Black Series version, but they still look good to me.

The facial sculpt captures the tone of the character description perfectly. Always alert, always ready to keep the peace (hopefully).

Black Series version

This version of the character packes an even bigger punch than its 3.75 inch counterpart. If you get one with a decent painjob. Some of the figures have an error in the painted on eyes which rob the figure of its menacing glare.

Like his smaller counterpart, the figure comes with a staff and the backpack. But these version of the accessories, like his armor and clothing have a great paintjob, showing that these tools are used in the harsh enviroment of a desert world

The backpack holds onto the figure via a peg. The tunic has three holes in it that fit the straps and give the illusion that they run beneath his tunic.

And two shots of which i could not decide on and therefore will include both of Zuvio being serious.

This figure is my secret favourite. The big top hat is something one has to warm up to, but once its accepted handling and posing this figure is a lot of fun. The character seems to be formed by his surroundings, a desert planet that demands a lot of work from its inhabitants to ensure their survival. And not only is he occupied with keeping himself alive, he also tasked himself with, hopefully, keeping the peace among the community.
I’m lookin forward to seeing him in the movie and playing with the figures again.

You mean a Special Edition release? I dunno the way the story was restructured it doesn’t feel like there’s any room for him anymore.

Did you also get the vibe that he could’ve been Rey’s friend? Or at least a mentor? I guess there would’ve been mentor overload.

Yeah, an extended edition. There are stills of Zuvio on the net.
He felt like a guy that looks out for Rey, a distant friend. But you’re right, he would have been one mentor to much.
I spotted Sarko Plank for a fraction of a second in my second viewing. He got a neat figure too.

Lol. Maybe. He got his own Star Wars novel. Until then all we have is one wild west style book and the FoD Star Wars Christmas Special for poor old Zuvio!

I wonder how his scenes played out. Maybe I’m inventing his mentorship with Rey. He could also be a minor antagonist. It’s so weird since he got two figures! Even Lucas made figures only ever of characters who appeared, if only for a second!

It’s just so sad because i really like the figures. Even if he would be an antagonist, he would look great.
He might appear in Episode VIII: a new hope for the Constable.

How did you like the movie?

I personally doubt he’ll be in Episode VIII… hell Phasma was already misused and it’s going to be hard to take her seriously after this movie.

I enjoyed myself. I liked it while I was watching it but like other JJ productions it left me feeling empty afterwards. There were scenes that pulled me out. It felt very intense but a little too fast. Little errors here and there. Why didn’t Chewie hug Leia? Why Rey? Where’s Maz? Why is Phasma a toolbox? Why did we need a scene with cthulhu mosnters and the Celtic and Asian mafia? I wanted to feel for Kylo and Hux was boring. Snoke appeared too many times. Argh! But I still enjoyed myself…

Hux was underused….it’s a great ride until you start to think about it. Also, nobody mentions that the new republic has been annihilated and the first order is the strongest military outfit in the galaxy.
I hope epVIII puts some flesh on the skeleton that is this movie.
I don’t see why Gwendolyn Christie gets such attention for playing a toolbox that gets thrown into a trash compactor.

“.it’s a great ride until you start to think about it” Isn’t that every J.J. Abrams show? Star Trek and STID felt the same but even worse.

Even Hux’s fascist speech felt boring. Jeez. How do their soldiers even get pumped up by that? Hux needs a hype man.

I know! It feels like in their rush to be as unlike the prequels as possible they under-explained everything. They desperately tried to get things back to a status quo in a way that felt cheap to me. They tried t get the Beatles back together but it didn’t quite work.

Seeing how Phasma and Poe were treated it’s very clear to me that Phasma was a very late addition to the movie. Most of her scenes feel tacked on and replacable with that stun baton guy. In fact Gwen’s character was originally male but they changed it to get more women in…. and forgot to write her into the story!

Why wasn’t she the trooper that yells “TRAITOR”? It felt like that’s where she would logically be. It’s clear she was created in the marketing. Hell poor old Zuvio was completely cut from the film. Phasma must’ve offed him to have what little screen time there was.

That is my worst nightmare, Phasma cutting Zuvio out 🙂
Hux felt like this typical right wing guy that was raised to act this way but has only internalized daddy’s viewpoints. But i see, he lacks some punch.
Oh, i have not considered Phasma to wear the baton. Just read the Finn backstory from Before The Awakening and even there she doesn’t do anything except being a badass analytic.
Wonder what Rian Johnson will do. With this movie acting as a defibrillator, it’s like bringing in House M.D. To nursing the films back to health.

Interesting but Hux felt even les like that. He feels like a poor man’s Peter Cushing.

And this is a problem the prequels had as well. That you kind of need to read the ancillary materials to know what’s going on! Ach. I can only hoe Episode VIII does better.

With the people involved I guess Disney is aware that they need to make it this trilogies Empire.
I must admit!it that I am glad for all the ancillary material because I would only read comics without it.

Hmmm maybe but this was my problem with the prequels. Ancillary materials should be optional and an end to themselves…. I shouldn’t have to read it to know certain things!

With every other franchise i’d agree, but with Star Wars i’ll turn a blind eye towards it.
        Happy New Year!
